PINC.8 SPEAKER: WILLEM BEEKMAN “In my life, biology, mythology and astronomy have gradually become more and more intricately entwined,” says Willem Beekman. As a biologist and botanist, Beekman spent years teaching at various academic levels, from high schools to university. He was a lecturer at Wageningen University and later director of the Hortus Botanicus (botanical gardens) in Amsterdam.
Beekman is also a storyteller, performing at theaters, schools and businesses, and contributing to TV programs. He has also written several books on astronomy and other topics.
Nature is Beekman’s prime source of inspiration. Spiritual ecology is Beekman’s guiding light as he explores that which lies at the heart of nature. His dialogues with stars, trees, flowers and landscapes effortlessly enthrall any audience. He shows them how nature and humanity relate to one another. Using vivid metaphors, drawn from mythology, Beekman gives an account of his quest for truth, beauty and goodness in creation.
