PINC.3 SPEAKER: NINO CERRUTI Nino Cerruti would have become a journalist or a politician, if he hadn’t inherited the family’s fabrics production company at the age of 19. As it is he developed into one of the world's leading fashion designers, heading his own fashion house Cerruti 1881. Cerruti shops can be found from Moscow to New York, but in actual fact the cinema screen proved to be his most powerful worldwide display. In more than 150 films, ranging from 'Borsalino', 'Pretty Women', via 'Basic Instinct' to 'Eyes Wide Shut' and 'American Psycho', he dressed actors such as Michael Douglas, Sharon Stone, Jack Nicholson, Harrison Ford, Clint Eastwood, Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman. Many of these actors became friends and private clients of Cerruti, whose aim has always been 'to aid a personality and not to replace it'. Cerruti travels the world, but in fact prefers to be at his home in Piemonte where he also grew up. Roots and traditions are the most important things in life, says Cerruti, who disap- proves of the denial or disturbance of these roots he sees everywhere in life. 'People are poor', he says, 'because they lack mental values and content. Our economical crisis is just the result of a much larger, human crisis.' However Cerruti hasn’t lost all hope for mankind if one considers his motto for life: 'I'm not an optimist, but I think positively.'
