ESTHER DYSON
(USA)
Chairman of EDventure Holdings
  PINC.4 SPEAKER: ESTHER DYSON

n the world of information technology Esther Dyson is certainly one of the most influential people on earth. She is chairman of her own company EDventure Holdings that focuses on emerging information technology worldwide and on the emerging computer markets of Central and Eastern Europe. She is an active investor in and sits on the board of a variety of start-ups in the US and Europe, and informally advises governments and companies around the world.

Dyson is most esteemed for her thoughts on the impact of the information technologies on our daily lives. She shares her visions through EDventure’s monthly newsletter Release 1.0, two annual conferences and her recent book Release 2.0. This bestseller discusses the implications of the Internet for individuals and analyses the dangers as well as the potentials of the Net. Esther Dyson (1951) graduated from Harvard in economics at 21 and learned about business during three years at Forbes Magazine, where she started as a fact-checker for Forbes. From 1977 onwards she worked on Wall Street as a securities analyst. In 1983 she bought her company from her then-boss, Ben Rosen (chairman of Lotus and Compaq), and renamed it EDventure Holdings. She started travelling and meeting entrepreneurs in Central and Eastern Europe in 1989, and continues to devote substantial time to that part of the world. Dyson travels most of the time and keeps on going by swimming every morning as soon as the local pool opens.
